SAMPLE 1

CLIENT:

A U. S. Inventor/Entrepreneur holding patents in brushless motor control.

PROJECT TITLE:

The Market Value of Patents Describing Digital Techniques to Control Electric Motors

SITUATION:

Client held numerous patents on digital techniques to control electric motor technology. Licensing negotiations required a measure of market value of those same techniques employed in industry.

MTT ASSETS EMPLOYED:

MTT using its extensive database and information sources on brushless technology provided analytical support for a significant market valuation of the patents. MTT's report entitled "Brushless Motion Technology: A U. S. Market and Technical Forecast, 1991 - 1996", provided significant information and verification of market size.

BENEFITS/ RESULTS:

Client successfully negotiated an arrangement based on MTT's market evaluation. MTT was identified as the only source of ready made, in depth, information on the market as well as a credible source, on both sides of the negotiating table.

SAMPLE 2

CLIENT: A U.S. based Licensing/Technology arm of a large Japanese manufacturing company.
PROJECT TITLE: Technical and market evaluation of a series of 12 electric motor patents.
SITUATION: Client acquired rights to patents of specialized brush and brushless motors.  In order to maximize the patent value, client needed a technical analysis of the patents that would shed light on the market usefulness and commercial value of the patents.  Potential infringes as well as potential new licensees would be identified as a result of the technical analysis and market research.
MTT ASSETS EMPLOYED: MTT convened three technical professionals to analyze the patents.  The technical analysis helped focus MTT's efforts in defining applications and in identifying infringing or licensee companies.  MTT's prior research in brushless motor usage allowed us to quickly identify markets where their technology was employed.  MTT's large database with contact lists for motor users and manufacturers, worldwide, was used to identify all potentially infringing companies.  MTT's contacts verified infringement in a product area with little visibility to the outside world.
BENEFITS/RESULTS: MTT identified and verified 17 infringing companies, 20 more potential infringes and 10 potential licensee companies.
